Description

A School Student Support Director plays a crucial role in ensuring students' well-being, academic success, and overall development. They manage and implement support services and resources for students, particularly those who need additional help, such as special education services, mental health counseling, and academic interventions. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Management:
    • Develop and lead comprehensive student support programs, including academic, behavioral, emotional, and social support systems.
    • Oversee special education programs, counseling services, and intervention plans.
    • Supervise student support staff such as counselors, psychologists, and social workers.
  2. Student Services:
    • Design programs that provide academic interventions, emotional support, and behavioral management.
    • Monitor students’ progress and adjust support plans accordingly.
  3. Collaboration & Coordination:
    • Coordinate with community organizations and external agencies to ensure students have access to necessary resources, such as mental health services, family support, and medical services.
    • Work closely with school administration to align support services with the overall educational goals of the school.
    • Lead professional development sessions for teachers and staff on best practices in student support.
  4. Compliance & Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education, disability services, and student welfare.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and services provided.
    • Prepare reports for the administration, school board, and other stakeholders regarding student outcomes and program efficacy.
  5. Crisis Intervention:
    • Develop and implement crisis intervention plans and strategies to manage situations involving student mental health crises or behavioral issues.
    • Serve as a point of contact during emergencies or critical incidents involving students.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience: Several years of experience in school counseling, special education, or student services, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Certifications: Licensure or certification in counseling, special education, or a related field.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, mental health services, and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, families, and external agencies.
  • Data-driven decision-making to monitor and improve student outcomes.

This role requires a proactive approach to student support and collaboration with various school stakeholders to foster a nurturing and effective learning environment.
