General Job Description: This position is a 7-hour position within the child nutrition division of Sugar Creek Charter School. Responsibilities may change daily based on expected and unexpected circumstances. Candidate is expected to be able to be flexible to adjust to the needs of the company. On the job training is available to the right individual.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under general direction, is responsible for the onsite preparation and set up, serving and sanitation of the meal program.
- Assists in preparation and service of a variety of foods in accordance with established guidelines, work production standards and recipes.
- Sets up for service and serves food to students in accordance with instruction and portion control.
- Ensures that food temperatures are constant and accurate, taking and recording temperatures and other documentation in accordance with HACCP guidelines and production supporting documents.
- Maintains standards of food quality and food safety.
- Operates and cleans all kitchen equipment including oven, warmers, steam table, mixer, slicer, hot food carts and dishwasher.
- Cleans work and service areas and deposits refuse in waste receptacles.
- May cook food items using a variety of ovens, steamer, tilt skillet and tilt kettle according to recipes and HAACP guidelines.
- May operate a POS system and account for student meals and staff meals.
- May assist with food deliveries and storage needs.
- May assist in taking inventory of food and supplies.
- Follows the direction of school child nutrition supervisor, managers and assistant manager.
- Attend required meetings and in-service training as needed, a minimum of 4 hours.
Minor Duties and Responsibilities:
Keep all work areas clean and sanitary. Completes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning assignments.
Maintains a courteous repertoire during all interactions with students, staff and coworkers.
Minimum Qualifications Required for the Job Position:
Education Qualifications: high school diploma or GED
Experience Qualifications: one or more years in commercial food preparation. School child nutrition experience is preferred. Knowledge of commercial food equipment.
Other Qualifications: previous culinary experience is preferred however training is available for the right candidate. ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
Key Competencies:
Ability to use perform basic math and ability to read and follow recipe directions.
Knowledge of food safety practice and procedures.
Practice proper safety and sanitation, recognize and report critical control points.
Follow directions of school child nutrition supervisor, managers and assistant manager.
Any and all work required for the continuation of the school child nutrition program.
Physical Requirements:
Required to exert physical effort as part of a normal work shift in handling objects up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. There is regular and frequent exposure to one or more disagreeable work and/or climate conditions, such as a hot, cold, wet, or noisy immediate work area. The work environment is sometimes uncomfortable but relief from the situation is not required during a normal work shift.
