General Job Description: This position is a full time (8 hour) position within the child nutrition division of Sugar Creek Charter School. The candidate must be able to work a varied schedule according to department needs and manage the cafeteria staff engaged in the preparation and service of quality meals in the school child nutrition program. This includes maintaining compliance with federal, state, local and school standards and policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects accurate meal data and completes all government and school reports as required by the federal school nutrition program. Maintains accurate records for the school nutrition program.
- Plans and carries out work schedules to assure the feeding of all students in a timely and safe manner by establishing priorities of staff. Supervises the work of staff in assigned areas.
- Participates in quantity food production and meal service. Understands and utilizes inventory management. Works with the assistant manager to complete required inventory tasks.
- Learns and follows HAACP and health department regulations as they pertain to school food service. Completes required HAACP monitoring and corresponding paperwork.
- Understands menu management and ensures staff follow the most current standardized recipes provided by the child nutrition supervisor in accordance with local, state and federal regulations, food safety guidelines and HAACP principles and procedures.
- Learns and understands the food ordering process for all food and supplies needed for operation of the school nutrition program. Works with the assistant cafeteria manager to estimate and order required food and supplies for weekly and monthly use at the main campus cafeteria.
- Fluent in the use of TrakNow, RightNow and WebPOS software at the manager level.
- Maintains cleanliness and safe operation of kitchen equipment. Coordinates repair of equipment as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the child nutrition supervisor.
- Assists the child nutrition supervisor with performance evaluations, interviewing, testing, hiring and assignment and subsequent training of cafeteria personnel.
Minimum Qualifications for Required for the Job Position:
Education: high school diploma for GED with additional technical training or some college courses. BS Degree in food service management is desired but not required.
Experience: 5 years or more experience in food service management or 2 years’ experience in food service with an associate degree in foodservice management or BS in foodservice management with 2 years of experience in a supervisory position. Experience in school child nutrition is highly desirable.
Licensing/Certification Requirements: Valid driver’s license. ServSafe certification or successfully complete certification during training period.

Thorough knowledge of the principles of quantity food preparation and proper kitchen equipment use and care.
Ability to make logical decisions based on training received.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Knowledge of computer programs including word processing and spreadsheet programs, email communication and databases. Ability to reach out to software customer and technical support as needed.
Knowledge of health department regulations and HAACP procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media.
Dependable transportation.
Physical Requirements
Required to exert physical effort part of a normal work shift in handling objects up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. There is regular and frequent exposure to one or more disagreeable work and/or climate conditions, such as a hot, cold, wet, or noisy immediate work area. The work environment is sometimes uncomfortable but relief from the situation is not required during a normal work shift.
