Position Summary:

The Maintenance Associate supports the physical operation of Sugar Creek Charter School by performing maintenance, repairs, and upkeep across all campus buildings, facilities, and grounds. This position ensures that school infrastructure remains in excellent condition and meets all local, state, and federal health and safety requirements. The ideal candidate is proactive, reliable, and takes initiative to maintain a high standard of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance

? Perform scheduled preventative maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, lighting, fire suppression, and other building systems

? Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritize tasks based on urgency

? Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues and implement approved repairs

? Ensure safe and correct operation of maintenance tools and machinery

Facility & Equipment Upkeep

? Maintain the functionality and cleanliness of classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas

? Repair walls, floors, ceiling tiles, doors, windows, and minor furniture issues

? Monitor inventory of supplies, materials, and tools; communicate reordering needs to supervisor

Campus and Grounds Maintenance

? Support daily upkeep of outdoor facilities including lawns, sidewalks, parking lots, and signage

? Remove debris, snow, or hazards to ensure the safety of students and staff

? Assist with seasonal landscaping and weather-related facility prep

Support School Operations

? Set up and break down rooms for meetings, assemblies, and school events

? Coordinate with custodial staff and contractors for specialized projects

? Assist with school-wide inspections, state audits, and safety drills

? Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, local codes, and DPI maintenance protocols

Team Collaboration and Communication

? Maintain positive working relationships with all staff, students, vendors, and community members

? Communicate effectively and respectfully with administrators and school leadership

? Complete assigned trainings related to safety, equipment handling, and compliance

? Document maintenance logs and repairs accurately and in a timely manner

Required Qualifications:

? High school diploma or GED required

? Minimum 2 years of experience in general maintenance, custodial, or trades work

? Strong working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.)

? Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation

? Ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, operate machinery, and work in outdoor conditions

? Basic computer literacy for logging maintenance requests or updates

? Strong time management, organization, and communication skills

? Must pass background and fingerprinting clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

? Trade certifications (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, OSHA, etc.)

? Experience working in school or institutional facility settings

? Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

Working Conditions:

? Exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, and hazardous materials (with PPE provided)

? Physical labor including lifting, bending, kneeling, standing, and walking for extended periods

? Occasional evening/weekend work required for emergencies or special events
